BROADCASTER MARIA CHIDZANJA NKHOMA DIES
Veteran broadcaster and longer time singer Maria
Chidzanja Nkhoma has died.
Chidzanja Nkhoma was working at Zodiak
Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
According to a communication from ZBS, Nkhoma
died Saturday morning at the Covid-19 Isolation
Center at Kamuzu Central Hospital where she was
being treated.
The private owned station says details of the burial
ceremony will be communicated as and when they
are ready and with full instructions of health
authorities.
Nkhoma was until her death the head of the Section
on Women and Children at ZBS.
In the 1980s, Nkhoma worked at Malawi
Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Programmes
Department where she was announcer, producer and
news anchor.
She was also part of the MBC band.
In 1994, Nkhoma moved to South Africa where she
joined Channel for Africa, a broadcasting station
under the South Africa Broadcasting Corporation
(SABC).
She returned home in 2003 and did volunteer work
at Radio Alinafe for nearly a year before joining ZBS
as a part timer. She was fully employed in 2006.
