Mozze Chaps striving for growth beyond Malawi

Decades have passed without seeing any Malawian musician making waves with their music outside malawi. The likes of makasu band and kalimba band tried their level best back in the 80’s and were heard and appreciated on a global scale.
Overtime there has been a gradual trend and there’s a new wave of Malawian urban artists taking the country, and beyond, by storm with their unique sounds, through help of the exposure they’ve gained via social media from different influencers locally and in the diaspora.
One of these artists is Mozze Chaps whose career was officially launched in 2019 after releasing a song titled “Tulo” which featured Janta of Divorce fame. “It’s been a journey of self discovery and growth from the word go”, says the artist. His song Tulo and a couple of his other singles have been on repeat on a number of music platforms. Mozze Chaps is an Independent artist and has worked with Malawi’s top producers the likes of DJ Sley, Macia Beats, Cuff-B, Chycoon, Janta, BFB, Dickez Walker just to mention a few. Chaps is longing for a better version of himself and his artistic works. The singer has reggae/dancehall roots as he started singing in a reggae/dancehall crew back in the days and this group used to be called Dutty Central Clan now Njuchi music one of the largest and most influencial dancehall crews in the country and has done songs with artists from this crew like Chycoon, Chizmo Sting, Eli Njuchi, Princi Music, Pylesis and Veda Njucci.
Chaps says malawian countrymen and women now have so much love for local music rather than decades ago which is a step in the right direction.
